How should I care for my stainless steel cookware?
General Care Instructions
We recommend washing your Zest pots and pans after use in hot, soapy water. After cooking or cleaning, dry immediately to avoid rust, discoloration, and water spots. Do not use metal pads or utensils to remove any residue as they can scratch and chip your cookware set. We recommend using nylon pads or scrapers. Do not microwave or use in the dishwasher. Avoid sliding or dragging on hard surfaces as this may result in scratches or cracks.
Deep Cleaning Options
If your Zest cookware begins to discolor or shows burn spots after use, try using the following steps to bring your cookware back to life:
- Fill the pot or pan with warm water and make sure you completely cover all the food or burn spots with water.
- Put it on the stovetop and turn on heating element or flame so it boils up for 3-5 minutes.
- Use a non-abrasive sponge and scrub off any residual build-up on the cookware. Clean, wipe, or polish stainless steel in the direction of the grain and not across it. This method ensures that you won’t dull or scratch your product. It also helps to clean out the grooves where dirt and grime can get trapped.
- Let the pan cool down before attempting to dry it completely.
Handling Stains or Discolorations
For white and/or blue stains on stainless steel, you can simply remove them from lemon juice or white vinegar. Vinegar is an effective ingredient for ridding your cookware of discoloration typically caused by overheating. Simply wash your pan with vinegar and rinse with water to remove discoloration.
Additionally, vinegar can be used to rid your pan of white calcium build-up stains. Make a mixture of one part vinegar to three parts water and boil in the affected pot or pan. Allow the mixture to cool, empty the pan, and wash as normal.
For stubborn spots on the cookware, try Bar Keeper Friend stainless steel cleanser. These products are ideal for regularly cleaning stainless steel cookware. These products are non-abrasive and won’t harm the chrome oxide barrier when used properly.
